Identifying a vehicle
Decode the VIN for specifications and recalls, then confirm option and build details against manufacturer documentation.
Know the car
Identify the exact vehicle, save reusable specifications locally, and decode the chassis and engine shorthand used by enthusiasts and parts catalogs.

Decode the VIN for specifications and recalls, then confirm option and build details against manufacturer documentation.
Save one or more vehicles in My Garage so compatible calculators can reuse known weight, tire, and drivetrain values.
Use the BMW and Porsche guides to map model names to the chassis and engine codes used in parts listings and tuning discussions.
Calculators & references
Long-running model names hide major platform changes. An M3, 911, or WRX can refer to vehicles with different dimensions, engines, electronics, and compatible parts. The VIN, chassis code, engine code, model year, and option package create a much safer starting point than the badge alone.
The VIN decoder combines the U.S. NHTSA vehicle database with TunerBench’s enthusiast-code mapping. It also checks open recall campaigns when the necessary data is available. For purchasing or safety decisions, confirm the result with the manufacturer, a dealer build sheet, or the official recall source.
My Garage keeps reusable vehicle values in local browser storage. It does not require an account and does not create a server-side profile. That makes it useful for returning to calculations while preserving the privacy-first design of the site.
Formulas, assumptions, and limitations are shown on the individual tool pages. TunerBench is maintained as an educational planning resource. Verify safety-critical specifications with the vehicle or component manufacturer and the professional responsible for the work.

No. The decoder sends the VIN to the NHTSA services required to return vehicle and recall data, but TunerBench does not store it.
It uses local storage in the current browser. Clearing site data or switching devices removes or separates that saved profile.
They identify the exact platform and powertrain generation used by parts catalogs, tuning software, technical references, and enthusiast communities.
